Abscess

Abscess

Postby Mitton » Thu Aug 04, 2016 4:12 pm

One of my male Irian Jaya Carpets developed a hard lump on his bottom jaw\throat.
I took him to the vet and it was found that it was a type of growth\abscess\blockage in the tongue sheath. They gassed the snake and managed to push everything out without needing to cut. This was a first for me as well as for the vet. Snake seems OK with some slight swelling on the lower lip.

Spoilt my lunch absolutely-yuck. I hope it recovers completely!

Wow, that looks nasty and painful!

Hope the story concludes with a happy ending.

How does an abscess like this one form? It is the body's immune response to a foreign object or what?

No treatment yet, will just monitor.

Yeah, that's what we thought, maybe something got stuck and this formed around it.

Swelling is less but not gone completely. Have not seen the tongue yet but not bothering this snake too much.
