Carpet Pythons

I dont use gestation periods as i dont believe you can know when they are pregnant. I know there are averages but i just dont go on that. I provide gravid females with above normal temp gradients. They tend to sit in the hot spot all the time. They also spend lots of time hiding.

I use ceramic 100watt emmitters. I have never in my life burnt a snake on them. Reptiles only burn themself when they are cold! Their deep tissues dont warm up as fast as their epidermal layer and they dont realise they are burning till its too late. I do suggest light cages for people that have not used ceramics before.

My room fluctuated between 9-15 C degrees celsius at night. I can of course manipulate their night temperatures with my day/night thermostats.

bushbaby.

the male was very restless the last while and as such have introduced him to the female on several occasions already. i have not observed definate copulation as yet but having said that i dont sit and watch ( prefer to give them privacy ).
the female is carrying weight in all the right places so im holding thumbs. i followed a specific formula so the rest is up to the reptiles themselves. i will keep you informed.

Just normals. Nothing spectacular. The male I got when I got the jungle which is with you, and the female we bought from Creatures & Critters. She was such a lovely snake to work with. I must admit, she's very pretty. Will see if I still have photos of her somewhere.

Mittone, mine are doing okay. I found CP's post about the stiffness and half moon shape of the body very interesting as my female showed that behavior since about a week ago. I also thought she might be constipated so I gave her more exercise ever since, which couldn't do her any harm.

She also spends most of her time on the hot spot and the male seems to have lost interest. I will remove him for the weekend and reintroduce him on Monday.

I can just keep my fingers crossed. Great to see so many potential clutches this season. Congrats all!!!

Seems the re-introduction this morning was a good idea. During lunch I got my first visual comfirmation of copulation!I've never bred these so I'm holding thumbs even tighter now.

I took some pics and will post them tomorrow.

While breeding my other snakes (all colubrids) I've mostly noticed "active" copulation with the female and male moving around a lot and lost of "shivering" etc. These two just lay around hooked up. Is this typical of boids?

Thats what mine do! They do mate on and off for a few days though. I only separate them when I see nothing more going on.

Pics as promised. They aren't the best, but I didn't want o disturb the happy couple.

They only unhooked around 8pm last night so that gives them a good six to seven hours.

Good luck, that looks good. I have 4 females gravid at the moment and im expecting 4 more. The interesting thing is that i only used one male. I cycle him one a one day on, one day off cycle. After every break day i put him with a different girl. He has mated wit them every time. I also did not gradually raise the temp. It just went from winter to summer temperatures in one day. I will keep you updated as to how many girls eventually lay eggs. Every year i learn something new.

Any news from the other matings on this thread?

I've seen a few subsequent hook-ups, but last night was the first 100% visual confirmation, if you catch my drift. A LOT more graphic than the pics I posted above.

I will keep putting the male and female together until he shows no interest.

Hey Westley
The female has been on the heat non stop for a few weeks now, she is also not eating and is looking fatter.
They have mated a few more times but last night when I put the male in with the female he tried but she was not keen at all. I checked again at about 1am and he was still trying. This morning the female was up in the branches as if trying to get away from the male, so he has been removed.
So looking good so far.
