Carpet Pythons

Those snakes are all the right size to breed. I have smaller jungles than that, thathave bred for me. I have 3 girls that have mated with the same male that are gravid. He will most likely cover 2 to 3 more. Always add the boy to the girls. Males move at this time of year, females sit and wait for them. I think your female might be a male. And your male might be the girl Westley?

I've taken the word of the breeder for it. Or what happened is that I mixed up the 2 from day one, haha.

I'll give them a probe when I get the chance. Well as long as they are a pair it doesn't really matter.

Thanx for the info CP.

Good luck Westley. It sounds very promising.

Mittone, have you put my girl with the male yet? I really hope they will breed this season.

More good news for Bushbaby after Diego getting jiggy.
I had the male with the female for a while and then seperated them for a while, last night I put him with the big female, 30 mintes later I found this and they were still locked this morning when I left for work.

I found that the smaller female is actually also a male so there will only be this 1 big female breeding this season.

In your opinion, are those both Jungles or this the female a Coastal?

Both Jungles, if you look on page 5 of this thread, the smaller female (that is a male actually) is more Coastal, I would say Coastal x Jungle because the head looks a bit Jungle.

This is where it gets confusing and annoying. How can it be matter of opinion as to what species a snake is! Nobody can tell me definitively what the difference is between Coastal and Jungle. It is obviously not colour- Your two are different. It is not size unless your female pictured here is actually Coastal. A Jungle Carpet should not get that big. And there are no head scaling or paterning diagrams to show any real difference! I have a pair of Carpets that I bought from a guy as Coastals. I have bred them a few times now and the female is still only about 1.6m. The guy I bought them from saw them the other (forgetting that I got them from him) says mine are definite "Jungles". WTF!
Furthermore, babies from mine are more like jungles than my own are!

SnakesforAfrica, her colour has faded a bit over the past year or so, but she was a real stunner. We had a friend look at her when she was younger and he was convinced she was a Jungle. She may just be from a different area as what the brighter coloured ones are, but she's defenately a Jungle. This girl is not that big either. Maybe post pics of yours?

Thanks for the pics and the update Mittone. I am SO happy!! I've always wanted to breed her.

I found this pic of a "classic coastal". You should be able to tell the difference.

This is also some info posted regarding Jungle Carpets, which may help clear it up.

Jungles are most well known for their vivid yellow and jet black coloration, but they don't all look that way. In fact, I'd say about 90% of the Jungles on the market are a more dull gold color, rather than the bright yellow.

Yeah BB, that is more like your male.

It is really confusing but I think the biggest problem is that the ancestry of our Carpet Pythons in SA can't be traced like it is in the U.S. and there are people that mix Coastals and Jungles, Jungles and Irian Jayas and then sell the babies as what ever goes for the most money at that time, usually Jungles. I don’t think we have many pure Jungles in SA but some Jungles do get big and some or actually most will fade from about 3 to 4 years.

Most babies look the same and you can actually only see what they are for sure when they get bigger.

SnakesforAfrica, post pics then we can see.

Mittone well done. Now take the male out tonight. I put my male with a female every second day. I give him a day of rest. The next thing that should follow is her going of her food. Females then seem to become quite stif in the last half of their body. They seem uncomfortable and keep their last part of their body in a half moon shape. It almost looks like they are constipated. It can be as soon as two weeks after mating with the male. These are all signs that they are gravid. In most pythons its the same.

Carpetpythons, he has been rotating males so I am sure they get enough rest. lol How long is the gestation period as well as the incubation? Is it standard as in most pythons?

Thanks Carpetpythons and again thanks for all the help so far.
I had the other male in with the female and they mated on about the 7th (last I saw them) I think I will take this male out and only introduce him to her again from now on to try and get nice banded babies like these 2.

back tracking a bit. carpetpythons are yours heated from above in the form of spot lamps ( or ceramic heaters ) or do you use heating pads ? the pics you posted seem to indicate spot lamps ?

if you could provide a bit of info re. cage temps. between seasons that would be great too. what does the ambient temps in your room do ?

one day when i'm big i would like to have a ( breeding ) carpet collection one tenth of the size of yours.

keep it up.

ps. the yellow ones are hot.
