Chinese Water Dragon question...

Chinese Water Dragon question...

Postby insaniac » Wed Jul 07, 2010 11:23 am

As with everything else in the market, I've noticed a steep decline in the interest of these...

I've been trying to sell my trio for a while and serioulsy, I haven't even had one response...

Am I aiming too hig ? Is my price too expensive ? ( Wanting R 6000.00 )

If so, what would be a reasonable asking price for a trio of breeding water dragons ?

Anyone out there know's someone who might be interested in bartering, please let them know.

It's not that I want to sell them, I have to, due to recent time constraints etc.

Nowadays time is something I don't have a lot of anymore and I feel that they can be better cared for somewhere else.

I have pics available if anyone is interested in seeing them...

I would be willing to pay that amount for them, it's just I dont have money currently and still have to build more cages etc.
But I think you shouldn't drop your price too drastically if that's what your planning to do, maybe there aint that big of a demand for them anymore.

I hear you...

Nobody has that kind of money just lying around anymore.

Funnily enough, I put the cage up for sale and got a buyer within a day... and more people willing, but as it goes, I can't sell the cage and still have the lizards...

Where would I put them ?

Maybe you're right, maybe I should ride it out for a while...

I agree with wolf, these are stunning lizards and certainly something I want. As you said people just do not have R6000 lying around. I think your price is very fair though, and wish you best of luck in selling them. If I had the cash I would 100% purchase these.

Yes just ride it out, someone is bound to snatch them up when they get the chance and it gives you some extra time to enjoy them before you say goodbye. That's what I would have done.

Pictures sell animals. Take some good quality pictures especially if you can hold one to show its size. Nice feeding pics also do push people to think harder about the animals. Dragons often have scars and people do not realise how nice a well looked after pair can look. Personally I think the price is a bit steep but only because when I had lots of these they sold for much cheaper. With today's economy the price is not unreasonable though.

Thanks guys,

Makes me think I'm not that much of a miser after all...

I agree with you too Wolf777... Maybe I shouldn't be so hard up on selling them too quickly, taking some time might just bring along the right interested people.

B.V. as you wish sir...

I got some pics, unfortunately I took them right after they ate... I also took them with my phone, so excuse the quality...

First one... the older female... Nix...

Image

She's a bit grumpy nowadays being gravid and all... I've had her for the shortest time, a bit wary of me but still sweet.

Secondly... the younger female...Lily...

Image

I have not yet placed her in the big enclosure as I don't know how the big female will react to her, being gravid... She's very cute and always hungry.

And last, but certainly not least... the big man... Dude...

Image

He's very laid back, let's me stroke his head, and eats out of my hand... When he " brags " to the females he's the coolest head banger you've ever see

Insaniac,

Something that will also definitely help you sell these is if you write a care sheet on how you keep/breed them.

It will not only help you to sell these, but also help other who plan to source some in the future.

I know it takes time and effort, but it'll be well worth it.

If you do go ahead with this, please post it under the "Caresheet" section and post the link here.

Good luck.

Not a bad idea...

I will definitely give it a whirl, not promising a quick result, but will try my best.

Thanks again !

They are truly one of the most awesome looking lizards out there.
The shortage in many a pocket out there is the most possible cause for them not selling. At R6000, that's quite a figure for the "man on the street" to outlay, although the price to me would seem fair.
Perhaps also is the idea out there that these in particular, are not suited for the novice keeper but rather an animal for those with a bit more experience under the belt?
If I had the bucks, I'd take em off your hands in a mere heartbeat... Best of luck.

Valid points fredsmith.

The care of this species is not a lot like your standard beardie or Leo sure...

They need fresh water, and a lot of it, as they like to deficate in their water.

Sure it keeps the enclosure clean, but water changes are quite frequent.

I am currently busy working on a caresheet that I will " publish " on the forum once I'm done...

Keep a lookout !
