Help with blue tongued skink diet

Postby herpitologica » Tue Oct 13, 2009 10:50 pm

Hi everyone,
I have been doing alot of reading about a good diet for my bts,i now alot of conflicting opinions bouncing around in my head. Some sites say 65% animal matter eg.dog food, superworms, snails etc. Then the rest made up mainly of veggies with some fruit.Other sites say the opposire ratio works better,65%veg and fruit,35% protien.
I was also wondering about the use of a uvb light, some sites say it's a must others say it's not needed as long as the skink is getting calcium and d3 added to the diet then just take him out into the sun a few times a week for a while and he will be fine.
I have the uvb light in at the moment but he never uses it.
Thanks
Neil

Blue tongues do not like bright sunlight. They come out in the evenings and then search for food. UV is not that important.

The diet should be 75% veggies and leaves and only 25% meat especially when they are adults. They rather eat meat than veggies so only offer it about once a a week.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
