Today Bushbaby managed to arrange these lizards for me. I have had a soft spot for these guys since I saw some at the Transvaal Museum when I was still at school.
Now I have a small group of Trachydosaurus rugosus also called Shingle back skinks. These seems pretty easy to keep, with conditions much like Blue tongued skinks just not as damp.
They are also called Pine cone skinks. It is not difficult to see why.
They also have a blueish black tongue like the Tiliquas (Blue tongues) and at one stage were grouped in the same genus.
They are amazing lizards to keep and very sought after. In the US they go for about $5000 US each. They will mate for life and as a result you cannot just mix and match adults. I am not aware of any other reptile which will actively search out for the mate it had the year before.
Sorry Pinky I know you are the lizard lady but I will not be sending these over to you, I also think BB would be rather upset considering how much trouble she went to to make one of my dreams come true.
