Green female Boomslang

Postby Rob » Wed Apr 16, 2008 9:25 am

I caught myself a gorgeous green Boomslang last week which appears to be female, and full of eggs too. I must still confirm but im pretty sure.
I recall FSP having a green female many years back and Johan Marais' book mentions it does happen, i was just wondering how common they are. Anyone else found them? Anyone in the Cape maybe found a yellow female? ;)

This female has virtually no black on her in comparison to the males i find here. Theyre usually full of black.

I have heard about them but without pictures this will stay a rumour.

Funny you mention that Rob, I was watching two green boomslang at Terences trying to mate. Also Hans and Simon probed 2 yellow and black ones from Plettenburg Bay and they turned out to be a pair.

Don't worry, you paid me a lot so I believe you. :)

Is it not very late for snakes to be gravid? Still no photos?

Thats a beautiful colour green! If she lays eggs please keep and raise the babies because it would be interesting to see if this gets carried over to the next generation.

I took a look again and although shes thickset, im not entirely sure shes gravid. Will keep an eye on her, eggs may still just be high up.
