They have also developed boots - work very well in long grass - well up to the knees anyway.
The gloves definitely help for lab work and difficult call-outs. NOT to be taken for granted - only as ADDITIONAL protection or LAST resort. They WILL eventually fail and must be checked all the time for defects and changed regularly. I use mine all the time, never go on a call-out without them but I only use them if I can’t get to the snake with my hook for instance car engines, pipes or in thick shrubbery. Sometimes it is more dangerous trying to coax the snake out of its hiding place for hours. Also be very aware where you grab the snake – take it mid-body and you will get tagged. Do not use them if you are inexperienced or have a death wish. Catching big pythons becomes a breeze – hold your fist and whilst it chews on your (gloved) hand, grab it.
Interesting fact: almost all the snakes I catch using the glove end up chewing on me, even placid snakes like Boomslang that almost never strike or try and bite if caught with a hook.
