I have seen a number of snakes do it, not rinkhals though, wouldn't surprise me.

Nope but each year we have new species that are doing caudal luring. I have personally seen it in Puff adders, Black mambas, almost all the small adders and Madagascan ground boas. I can imagine others also do it.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
