I am almost positive the snake pictured is T. kirtlandii which is generally a lot larger than the T. capensis and is perhaps more inclined to tackle birds and mammals in the wild. I think it should be fine on this diet in captivity provided like BV said it is not over fed.
Interestingly I remember reading a statistic in some of the older South African literature that states very specifically 1 in every 40 T.capensis specimens will settle and feed in captivity. I am not sure what those figures are based on but a very interesting statement never the less.
