Thats very unfortunate and sad, its always the guys who actually do good that come short, amazes me how all the "free handle hero's" go unscathed.

There are people on SA Reptiles that knew Luke, and I posted this so that their thoughts and prayers might be with his loved ones during this awful time. Out of respect for a fallen fellow enthusiast, please don't turn this into a debate, healthy or otherwise.

I'm afraid this is a public forum, people will post their opinions regardless. Perhaps ask a mod to delete the thread? Condolences to his family and friends.

FuscusV2- I assume you have never been on Luke's site, he has his reasons for handling his Kings
the way he did, developed over years. The really big Kings hated to be hooked or tonged and reacted with aggression.
I only hope that some will continue the great work he was doing, RIP Luke a legend! My thoughts are with your friends and
Family.

Fastback, it seems that his site is down at the moment. If it comes back up, you should find it here http://kingcobrasanctuary.com/

Wow this is not good to hear. I wonder what it was that got him and how come he could not get help in time. He was doing really great work and he will be missed.

Cleaned up a few comments that we dont need.

BV, he was bitten by a king cobra and apparently suffered a heart attack in the immediate aftermath.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Damn that is unusual. Sorry to hear that. King cobras are not known for causing heart attacks so it does seem like a freak accident. So sad.

Yeah but they do have very fast acting venom and produce huge amounts of it...I personally know someone who died 15 minutes after a bite from a king and have read plenty of documented accounts of people dieing 20 minutes after bites..Just last year their was a famous snake catcher in India( called the Steve Irwin of India) who died almost immediately after a bad King Cobra bite.

Very sad day for reptile keepers everywhere..Rip Luke

I thought King Cobra venom contained a cardiotoxin.

Sad news about Luke. :(

It came as a hell of a blow to me..... I took the call to say he had been bitten.... (we're on his emergency contact list) I could hear what was going on as they worked hard to try and save him....

RIP my old friend.
