Why is it, when a snake is visible the 1st thing one does is grab a shovel?!? :smt013

I would like to think that the dog attacked the snake first, because there is no reason why the cobra would be wrapped around the dog's neck.
I know cobras like to stand their ground, but even so.
I think nobody will truly know what happened.
