Dear all, in accordance with the Zoological Code, I announce the recent publications of four issues of AJH issues 9-12 which combined have descriptions of about 30 new genera of snakes arising from a global audit of the advanced snakes.
All are backed by DNA evidence (M and N),
Issues can be downloaded from
Australasian Journal of Herpetology
http://www.herp.net
Included in the name changes are familiar taxa.
Also I should mention that AJH Issue 11 contains a paper on rattlesnake taxonomy with name changes (similar to the 2009 paper), with a minor addition - subgenus for polystictus.
I'll try to post some DNA stuff supporting the new arrangements here if I can in another post.
The papers also cover the USA coral snakes, now kicked out of Micrurus and non-venomous things like Garter snakes.
You'll also see from the rattlesnake phylogeny posted by myself elsewhere, the need to have the taxon ravus in a new genus, namely Piersonus.
Note also the Atropides split in the image, showing a good reason why that genus was also broken up (see AJH Issue 10).
African taxa were included in the audit and there are new genera as a result.
All the best
SNAKEMAN
