I love the yanks!!!
Just showed the article to one of my English co worker. We had a good laugh!
"The snake was contracting around the foot and had taken a bite."
So does this mean the snake had a temp job at the baby's foot?

Just a quick one. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Python in the first pic an African rock python? But then there is a second pic of a python which is a Ball python.
So which python was it then? I personally think its a bull* story, but anyway don't you think IF it was indeed an African rock python the kid had no chance. And come on, a Ball python? They cant even kill a cat/dog if threatened. I believe pythons know when or when not they can kill a "predator" or food?

LAMB Pythons, I think the python they were referring to was a Burmese. I believe there was a story in the States where an adult python killed a child. How true this is I don’t know. What I do know is story’s like this don’t do anything positive for the reptile hobby in South Africa. The paper that published the story was the Sowetan and the comments that followed show how fearful and uneducated the general population is about reptiles as pets. Law makers try to please mass opinion, so bad press for reptiles could result in tighter legislation for keeping reptiles. This has happened in many overseas countries already.

This was a ball python. There are a number of posts and news articles about it....sensationalism at its best ;)

Yip Michael, I lost it when I read the comments (And reminded myself again "see thats why you promise you`ll stop reading comments). We have the same issue here in the UK. This years issue is the danger of getting salmonella from reptiles.

Yeah this was that massive and man eater Ball python.

The snake that "killed the child" was not guilty. I dont care what the court found. Anyone with more than a few months experience with a Burmese python will know that a 2 metre long snake will not constrict a child. The snake was stabbed and the knife never even penetrated the child which it was "constricting" at the time. The step father who was alone at the time was also charged with meth dealing. Does not smell like chocolate pudding to me.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

When I was a baby we stayed in Malvern. The domestic came screaming through the house that there was a snake in my cot & sure enough my parents found a large BHS curled up next yo me... seems it was destiny from the start haha
