New from Joburg

Postby pirata » Mon Nov 10, 2014 9:43 am

Hi all

I don't know very much about reptiles and the like. I've just moved into a house with a very rich selection of wild life. I am here to learn about what is living in my garden.
I will be asking many questions.

Looking forward to gaining all the knowledge you all have.

Thanks,
pirata

A big welcome!
I am sure you will learn quite a bit here, post pictures of the wildlife, does not only have to be reptile related, would love to see what you find.
What city is this new house?

Hi Mitton

Thanks so much!
I live in Jukskei Park (Randburg) about 2 blocks from the small Jukskei river.
I have a fair amount of lizards and small reptiles (no snakes so far) and last night I saw what I think was a Leopard Ghecko running up the wall. As soon as I'm settled in I will spend a day with the camera searching.
I've posted some pics of the toads in my pond. I requested some advice on them. Its in the Amphibians section.

Hi pirata, welcome to the forum.
What you saw was definitely not a leopard gecko, as these are exotic and naturally occur very far from here. Also, they lack the filaments that allow other geckos to scale vertical surfaces.
I look forward to seeing what you find.
