Postby GOOF 1o1 » Fri Dec 09, 2005 2:31 pm

hey all I'm new with this game and just want to know about the legal aspects of keeping indigenous reptiles. I catch snakes for a hobby at peoples houses and on farms where ever they turn up> all I want to know is how I could get into breeding programs so that the endangerd snakes that I catch could legaly be paired and their ofspring be released in a secluded area any one who can help me please! :!:I also want to know what boa or python are best for a beginner. I'm not strange with snakes I know almost evry indigenous one by hart it is just the husbandry that I'm a bit strange with any one please :!:

As far as I know you need catching and keeping permits in Limpopo area. You will have to find out by your local Nature Conservation.

A nice beginner snake would be Red Tail Boas, or alternatively Burmese Pythons, although they can become quite large. They also need to be handled alot.

Hope this helps a bit.

Welcome GOOF. I too would like to learn more about indigenous reptile husbandry and would like to do it the right way. Reintroduction would be ideal too. If you find out what the authoroties say, I would be interested to find out. Keep us posted with any breeding projects you attempt.
