Leopard gecko shedding !! leftovers

Postby madcow » Thu Aug 17, 2006 8:30 am

Hi
My female gecko's last shed wasnt so great this time
She has some skin leftover on her snout .. Sometimes she might have problems with her toes but after a hot bath that can be solved easily ..
The problem with her snout is she is a bit feistie and doesnt appreciate me helping her when it comes to her face and ruin her makeup

Should i try and get it of and get her frustrated or leave it to come off with the next shed ..??

Ps i have also noticed that sometimes they dont eat all the skin ... is this normal ??

Try misting her.

Do you have a humidity box in her cage? You need to place a small tub with moist moss in in a warm section of her cage. This creates enough humidity that should help her shed easier.

Don't know about the shedding eating problem. Sorry.

i have a moist box in the cage and keep it wet and on the warm side of the tank ... She normaly scrubs around in there when she sheds but lately when the skin becomes loose she climbs out and starts to rub the skin of on rougher surfaces . Ill try the misting

mmm... Strange. Maybe put something in the moist box which she can rub against.

Watch the shedding issue! The Dr Verseput prewarned me that shedding issues can sometimes indicate other problems. Don't panic just a heads up!

My Little MBD struggler is a notoriously bad shedder and you will need to get that shed off as it does not allow the skin under it to do it's thing properly if it stays on. When Angel struggles I put an upturned bowl in the basin and then fill with warm water till her feet are covered and then cover the top of the basin with a board to prevent children and cats from bugging her. Leave her for 5 to 10 mins or till the water is cold and try the skin or refill and leave her. Her last shed took me 3 hours of this routine but she has to go through it ... Vet's orders! She is however getting used to it now - yay.

good luck with the feisty one :)
