BHS Swelling lips.

Postby Kennyakagera » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:56 pm

Hi guys,

Here a few pictures of my BHS female that has a swollen lip.
She has had it for quite a few days but I didn't really think it was bad but today I can see that it got worse.
Anyway just tell me what you guys think about it.

So basically as you can see she can't close her mouth properly.

Same.

But doesnt really look like there are any infections to me.

Thanks

Thank you so much !
I'll look on the forum for solutions ...
Is it already at a bad stage to you ?
Where could it come from ?

Thanks again.

Get that snake to a vet a.s.a.p still in relatively early stages. The vets seem to be able to do a lot more if you catch it in time. Good luck

:(((

The injury on the nose is probably where it began. Why and what happened there?

you can clean the mouth with a cotton bud dipped in a VERY weak hydrogen peroxide and water mixture. Keep her warm, and humid and absolutely hygienic. I will place her in a plastic tub with paper towel as substrate. Force feed if she doesn't want to eat on her own, as food and nutrients is essential in order for her to build up a immune system to fight the infection.

Maybe better husbandry will also do the animal a world of wonder!

But I think that snake is past TLC. Maybe best to get it checked by a vet as mentioned!

Mate I'm not undred per cent sur but it must be from the mozzi net or a bite from a mouse as I feed them alive but I'm sure I would have seen the bite ...
And for the vet here? Not a chance I'll find Someone qualified for snake ... :(
Yes It is a WC for a few month like 4-5
Thanks mailjvdb for the hydrogen peroxide is that easily found in pharmacy or where ?
Thanks again guys for your help I really appreciate and will do everything I can to save her ...

Mate for better husbandry I think I can't do better which of my cages are clean weekly with a weak solution of bleach and I avoid to use branches or stuff from outside and even if I do they will be clean and "deparesited". When ever they poo I clean with toilet paper and their "journal paper" is change weekly too .. Is there anything more I can do ? The only bad point is all there found are WC and that could be a bad reason but I usually kill the mouse and freez it ...
Please tell me if there is anything else I can do ?
For the tub how big does it need to be is bigger better or smaller better ?
Thanks again I can't believe how quick you guys are to answer really appreciate !!

Just cleaning the obvious infected area will probably not be enough, have you got a reptile vet around that can administer the correct antibiotics?

That would be my first move.

Then the best bet would probably be to try the advice I gave you, and also do some research on here to see what other people have tried. The peroxide can be purchased at a pharmacy yes.

Hope you manage to pull her through!

Hey Kenny,

For cleaning the cages get some F10, dilute a few mls in a litre of water. Really good stuff.
We use iodine solution and then rinse it with hydrogen peroxide( weak). I have found that keeping the snake hot and dry but still supplying plenty water works well.

Good luck:)

Hey jamster,
I dont think I can get f10 un here but Will look for it ...
Since Then Ive been putting her in a smaller tub with toilet paper, Ive been cleaning her mouth with salted water 3 times a day, changing her water every day and clean her tub whenever she is pooing ...
I force fed her an egg this morning with non problem, well I didn't have her the full egg like half of it for now and I'll try a guecko tonight ...
I see that I have Ciprofloxacine has antibiotic and you can use it for snake as 10mgr per kilos diluted in water ...
Does that sound correct for you guys ?
I'll keep you in touch but her nose wound is looking much better already ... Although no improvement on the rot mouth ..
Will post some picture tonight ...
