Carpet shedding

Postby west » Wed Oct 18, 2006 11:53 am

hi guys
this isnt a serious problem, but i have a young pair of carpet pythons and in their past few sheds, the tips of the tail doest come off. i do remove them to prevent tail rot, but is a hassle. is there any way to get them to shed the whole skin eg. increase humidity etc.
any input would be greatly appreciated.
thanx

What is your setup like. Increasing humidity is about the only thing you can do.

hi bb
they are in seperate pine cages with sliding glass fronts. not sure about the dimensions. the heating mats are in the back corner with the water bowl in a cooler spot. i've heard that some people put their waterbowls on the heating mats to increase humidity but i'm afraid the warmer water isnt good for the snakes. i have a plastic spray bottle. will it help to spray some water on the mats around shedding?

Put a small waterbowl on the warm side as well, thus increasing the humidity. Keep a waterbowl on the cooler side as well... then your problems should be solved. You can mist them daily, especially when due to shed, with luke warm water and that will also help.

Hi there, I also have a pair of young carpets! Supposedly Jungle (by Reptipets) but will still see. (for the price i paid they must be. lol)

The female is only busy developing her screamer yellow color now.... so i'm holding thumbs!

Any way..for the humidity, i put in 2 water bowls. One near the heating pad to evaporate quickly which encreases the humidity, and the other one on the cooler side of the cage.

I also try and mist them 3 times a week or so, spessially when they are in the blue.

I am using astro turf for my substrate, but there are plenty of other substrates to use that keep humidity better.

You can also make a hide box with well wrung out, wet sphagnum moss!

That should do the trick!!

Please post some pics of yours... will try and do the same!

Regards!
