Astma attack after working with meal worm

Postby WilMel6704 » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:01 pm

Not sure if this is right spot.

Tonight I was searching my meal worm farm for fatties, when my hands and eyes started itching like crazy!! (Never really had this before with the worms - normally only mice) Fed critters and ended up having a major allergy & astma attack. Has anyone else had this from feeders?

I am no Dr and I also am no expert in this. I think you might have a problem with Mites in your substrate. They are small and nearly invisible and I think this could have caused your reaction.

I use to have it when i kept mealworms too long in the same substrate and never cleaned out the old substrate just added new stuff ontop of the old, so i would sneeze constantly, itchy eyes and cough, but luckerly never got to the astma part.
