Heya folks,

A friend was telling me of a striker snake. Apparently he looks a little like a viper (the head) but is actually a constrictor. Apparently they are feisty chasp. Does anyone have more information on this?

Candoia spp. do look a lot like vipers, with some even displaying the classic zig-zag pattern.

A lot of colubrids can also look like vipers, too. Macropisthodon, Trimorphodon, Thamnophis, Pituophis, Nerodia, and Hypsiglena are a few of the genera that come to mind, although most of these have to be performing a threat display to look like a viper. Most of these are mildly venomous, as well.

Possibly he is talking about a Mock Viper, Psammodynastes sp.

Or if he is referring to local species, I would say he might be thinking of an Egg Eater.
