Westley, you shouldn't have

That is a rather vague clue although.
I am going to assume it's a rat snake and probably a very common one at that, so lets try narrow it down a bit.
Is it on the North American Continent?

Not North America and not particularly common.

Well now I'm stumped, that did not narrow it down like I had hoped.

Nope, but your distribution is getting a lot closer than North America.

Okay, let's speed this up a bit.

The species was originally considered as a ratsnake, but I think in 1891 it's uniqueness was observed and it was placed into a genus of it's own, of which it is still the only species.

I guess it would still be considered a ratsnake, although this is not included in it's common name. It has two common names, one of which is quite majestic.

Haha, yup you got it.

Gonyophis margaritata - Rainbow or Royal tree snake. It used to be part of Gonyosoma in the old days.

Wow that is a stunning snake, I think it still looks like a rat snake especially the head with that Orthriophis/Gonyosoma shape almost a cross between the two.

Ok I have a reptile in mind for the next one but need a good clue so will post it soon.

I doubt there are any of these in captivity anywhere in the world.

They are just too rare I recon and even pictures of them are rare.

Never even heard of this snake before. Stunning specimens. I hope somebody cracks the code on breeding them.
