Whats a Lizard?

Postby alexander » Mon Oct 29, 2007 7:23 pm

What do you guys think a lizard is classified as? Does it include chameleons, geckos, varanids, lacertids, skinks ect. I've heard a couple views before. I think a lizard is a common term used for Squamata: Geckos, skinks, chams, varanids, ect.
Whats your opinion?

Well according to the book: Reptiles of Southern Africa, some of the 'lizards' are as far apart from each other as snakes are from some 'lizards' such as those which developed venom systems and those that didn't.

Until someone proposes a new name for the group of reptiles that have split off from lizards as we know them, there is no other name to call the collective group.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
