Snake in garden in Midrand

Postby FarligOpptreden » Tue Jan 01, 2013 6:14 pm

So, following my not-so-epic thread on MyBroadband forums, some members there recommended I post here for identification and removal of the snake. More details and 2 pics of the snake can be found in this thread.

Conclusion is it might be a Rinkhals or cobra of some sort. It's currently trapped in a hole in our outside wall and I'd want it removed as soon as possible... Help would be appreciated!

Hmmm... A couple of those numbers don't seem to work, while 1 phone seems to be off and the other just goes on voicemail. Any other advice for now?

Hmmm... Can't seem to edit my previous post, so apologies for the double post. Got in contact with Darryn, but he is working full time. He seemed really friendly and helpful, but I don't want to bother him at work. We urgently need this snake removed. It's still stuck in the hole in our outside wall, so we need help getting it out of there. We don't want to do something stupid by luring it out ourselves, so PLEASE any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, last post. Managed to get a number from FreeMe for a professional snake catcher. He recommended that I permanently plug up the hole, because there is no way to lure, smoke or call out the snake. The snake is a danger to our dog and the neighbours' small children... So looks like that's unfortunately the snake's sealed fate. :(

Well try to have the snake removed before sealing up the hole. I doubt its a good idea to seal a hole while a rinkhals is busy spitting at you.

Got a recommendation to place a container of sorts in front of the hole so that the snake gets trapped in a removable box when it emerges from the hole. Sounds like a pretty good idea, so I'll see what I can do today...

You will have to seal that container very well, a snake can get out of very small spaces.
You can also not be sure there is not another way out, so the snake might still get out. Rather be sure by having someone catch it and remove it, will you be OK not knowing if it is in the hole or not?

The professional snake catcher said you cannot get it out. Professional idiot if you ask me. Lazy bugger.

Phone Eugene he offered.

I went out and had a look, the snake was in a very small hole under the built-in braai, the hole opened up in a bigger open area under the house foundation under the garage, so there was no way of trying to dig it out.
I could see the snake's head when I looked in the hole with a torch but even with water it would not come out.

I am sure the snake will come out when it feels safe and the owner will phone me then.

It will move away now after the disturbance, well most of the time it would - life is full of contradictions ;)
