Premature kitten help?

Postby Debbiestar88 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 6:07 pm

AAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH!

Ive just typed the whole story and it got cleared!!

I have a kitten who is very prem, a normal cat pregnancy is about 9 weeks, my little lady's mommy only carried her for 3/4 weeks and then totally rejected the litter. Only one that survived is my little Miki (Its Japanese for "Beautiful princess")

What I want to know is, because she's so prem will her eyes still open about 2 weeks after her birth? Or will it take like.. 7 weeks? (The 5 weeks she would have still been in her moms tummy plus two for development)

And any other advice on what to expect/ look out for will be appreciated!

Cant attach any pics, they too big, blagh!

Hi, If it was me I would consult a vet and take kitty for a check up at same time.

What we did was use a dilute form of baby formula...think it was for newborns if I remember correctly. We used a heating pad under a blanket in a small box, just watch out with current temps it doesnt get to hot.You will need to use a earbud or something similar to stimulate the toilet response, just rub around the bum area to similate the mother cat cleaning it(important).Don't mess with the eyes or try open them or anything even if it seems to take ages for them to open.
So pretty much warmth, warm baby formula often and bum wipes lol.Good luck.

Sigh, I did all of that, researched like a crazy person, took her to the vet because she kept crying,
he told me she's fine... I came home and 10min later she died :-( my little beautiful princess..
She was so cute and so fiesty! She went to the vet the day after she was born and the next, and
she still passed :-( I tried so hard, and even though she was only with me for 2 days, I cried my heart
out... It still makes me sad

Debbiestar88 the main thing is you tried, you gave her the best shot she was going to get.Sometimes no matter what you do or try it doesn't work out.Sorry for your loss.Take care.
