Multimammate mice

Postby Lillypod » Fri Jul 06, 2012 4:03 pm

I'm getting a mom and 10 babies Multimammate mice, any tips on keeping and/or breeding them? I have one male, but he is not very tame, I got him from someone who wanted to get rid of him. I did some research on the net though, so I'm not totally clueless. Also I will only be keeping 2 young females and will be selling the rest. How much can I ask for them and is there anyone near Richards Bay on here that would like some? (I already have a lady who wants maybe 2, so there is still a bunch of them left)

I actually saw some that are tame, so maybe it differs from rodent to rodent.

You should start your colony with at least 1 male to every 4 females, my ratio is actually 1:6, they breed like crazy!

Will be sexing my 10 multimammate mice babies soon, I'm keeping 2 to 3 females (depending on how many are females) and someone else is taking 2 females, all the rest will be for sale (except the mom, I'll keep her as well, she is very sweet), let me know if anyone is interested in any and if you are in the Richards Bay area...

Lillypod good luck with the new Multi's. I have yet to see a single one that is "tame". they bite from a very early age. They also chew through almost anything and are really good escape artists.

They are rather pretty especially the pure white ones. i keep them in a ratio of 6f/1m and I have to change the males from time to time as they suffer under the biting of the females.

They take 90 days to sexually mature so there is a long wait till they actually start breeding. if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Okay, thank you. I will contact you if I need any help, my female doesn't bite, but then again, I don't pick her up, only pet her, my male is in a hamster cage and I will be keeping the females in a large tank, I believe my females needs a break between babies, even if they are "just" snake food. I agree that they are really pretty. I have ones that look like they are wearing jackets/overcoats and I have almost plain brown ones, they have some white markings. I've noticed my female babies don't nip, I've only been nipped by males... I saw on another forum a guy that has bred his Multimammates to be tame, he has photos of the sitting in his hands, he says they are as tame as rats.

They pair for life. But only really settle, and breed in colonies the best.So 3pairs would be best per setup.I breed the Cinamon color and am hoping to get fancy colors out through selective breeding.Mine don't bite, unless pegnant and picked up.Only way to protect themselves. If you'red Like to send me some great.Live in Port Elizabeth.A new strain would help my breeding. Can always send some back in the future.Contact 076-1138-999 or Email: geagleclaw@yahoo.com
