Ferrets?

Postby Lillypod » Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:14 am

Does anyone know if they are legal?
I saw a guy selling them and contacted him and this is the reply I got:

Hello,

We are very happy that you are interested in our Ferrets.
Our family has been breeding ferrets for the past years and we have gained a lot of experience in breeding them. They are raised in a home with kids and other pets. They are well tamed and easily adapt to new environments.
Our babies are exceptionally family pets, calm, loyal and fund loving. -Fully vaccinated-micro
chipped-Has been worm and flea treated on a regular basis-Vet checked-Not neutered,DNA tasted.
The cost of a Ferret is 1600Rands , including a crate,playing tools,hand manual amd a diet booklet.
We are located in 44 Budler Str, Upington/Northern Cape.
We will be very greatful if you can come and fetch the ferret but if you cannot come then there is no problem because we are affiliated with a courier company that does all our deliveries to interested clients who are not located here in Upington. This agency is a member of the IPATA (Independent Pet and Animal Transportation Association),they are very fast cheap and reliable they offer door to door delivery services and or you could pick up the ferret at your closest airport.
For us to proceed and get a ferret over to you, we will need the following information from you,

your full names........
province..........
contact details.......
physical address.......
post code.............
Nearest air port to your location....

We will use the above information to register the Ferret at the courier company. As soon as we register the Ferret at the courier company, we will send youy all delivery details so that you will know the exact arrival time of the ferret at your home so kindly reply and tell us which of the ferrets you want and also provide the information so that we can proceed.
Below are pictures of the available Ferrets.
They are Coco, Kelly and Max.
Coco and Kelly are females while Max is a male.
Please kindly reply as soon as possible and let us know.
Do you have any questions??
Thanks and waiting for your reply.
Mike.

VERY dodgy if you ask me.

Ferrets are illegal in RSA, unless "fixed." But I have not seen any available in Johannesburg, let alone Upington (and believe me, I've been to Upington).

What I think is this scammer chose the town furthest away from everywhere else, where no one in their right mind will be willing to drive to actually verify that the animals exist.

So now you can't drive to go check the animals, you take his word and deposit the money (which is unrealistically cheap for a ferrit in my opinion) and the guy disappears.

Also, the following statement often accompanies the Ball Pythons scams:

Our babies are exceptionally family pets, calm, loyal and fund loving. -Fully vaccinated-micro
chipped-Has been worm and flea treated on a regular basis-Vet checked-Not neutered,DNA tasted.

There;s not even a test like a DNA test. this guy is just taking you for a ride.

These scams are the easiest for crooks as it costs them nothing to lay the trap. 10 minutes on Gumtree or Junkmail and then they just sit back and wait for mails and calls.

Lillypod that is a total scam. I contacted them months ago, got the same reply.

After asking around I found a person who bought from them, and he did not receive anything, and when he tried to contact them the phone was not answered, no emails sent back, no sms's.

Sad, but a scam.

I asked if I need permits, ect and here is the reply:

Hello,
The ferret will come with all papers. I have sold ferrets to KZN before and it will not be a problem.
The shipping cost to KZN is 560Rands so everything will cost you 2160Rands.

Which of the ferrets do you want??
When do you want the ferret to join your home?

It's very sad... :'(

Lillypod, they don't even own ferrets let alone sell them.

If they did have I would be sad for the animals.

I like the photo of max that they got from google:).

Lillypod, stay away.

I was suckered by these guys once(lost R3000), still feel like an idiot. You find someone selling what u want close to you and when you call they are somewhere far. Then they urge you to use their transport company and pay in deposits. The animal will never show. Later its vacinations and air port security, all that they need money for.

They "sell" anything on the internet, from monkeys to wild cats and they are always part of the family, according to them. Look at the phone number, probably starts with 076. Went to bank afterwards to get info on the account holder and his job was a fuel atendant.

Just warning.

Reminds me of all the Cameroon scams. Charles Tomy comes to mind. Wonder if it's the same person. Also contacted someone on Gumtree once in regards to Tortoises and also got a similar kind of reply

super dodgy, this guy was so keen, he emailed me about 7 times in 5 minutes asking me if i want one, tell me, he's (conveniently) shipping a ferret to my town tomorrow, do I want him to add mine to the shipment, then he phoned me, sounded like some nigerian or something, which prompted me to look him up first (well, that and the fact that he assured me that the ferrets are legal and chipped, duh) super dodgy sounding don't waste your money. The email by the way was EXACTLY what you copied in your post.

Keep forging bank deposit slips and send them with the wrong details (add an extra number on his account). Order lots of them. Get a premium phone line and then keep getting him to call you. Get one that runs at many rands per minute billing.

Hi All,

Thought everyone may find this interesting http://www.ewt.org.za/programmes/LPP/En ... 20pets.pdf (copy paste)

I've been searching the green gazette for an ACT or Bill or Legislation regarding black listed exotic pets in Gauteng as it appears that it is provincial could anyone advise where one would get their hands on the list. I'm almost terrified at the thought that living in Gauteng allows on to own any exotic animal
