Hedgehog dilemma

Postby Lillypod » Wed Sep 11, 2013 1:06 pm

My aunt has been wanting a hedgehog for a very long time and she lives in Klerksdorp, she runs a small rehabilitation center and nursing home for wild animals (that is registered). Her husband finally bought her a hedgehog, but my fear is it is a wild hedgehog that someone was selling, they apparently fed it marie biscuits since it was a baby. Can someone please confirm if this is a native hedgehog? It does not look like any of the pet hedgehogs I have seen before.

Yip that is an indigenous hedgehog and she requires a permit. If she is registered they should not have a problem adding this to her permit. Hope she feeds it soaked dog food and mealworms to get some proper food into its body.

I doubt the previous people had it for very long. It would be dead on that diet.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

I told her what I feed mine and she says she will adjust his diet. She is determined to give him the best life possible, she has had a few really awesome animals at her center. Let's hope he does well and now damage was done due to his previous diet. Thanks Bushviper.
