Here is an article from one of the Namaqualand local newspapers I wanted to share. Very sad!

That's very sad indeed. I didn't realize they were that venomous.

Sorry guys my Afrikaans is not very good.
What is the story here?
The child looks like a toddler?
Do they have any idea on the species that did this?

Quick summary:

A 4 year old toddler from Springbok in the Northern Cape was bitten on the scrotum by a "yellow worm" (centipede) and subsequently died.
Police are waiting for the results of forensic patholoogy tests to confirm whether it was a centipede that caused the death.
Symptoms were consistent with centipede bites, in that the toddler suffered a burning pain in the groin, fever, muscle spasms and suffered cardiac arrest.

It is possible that the kid was sitting on the ground and that part of the country is hot so he would have short pants on. When the centipede started scratching him he must have clawed at it and that's when he got bitten. Sounds fairly reasonable and extremely painful I must add.

Allergic reaction maybe?? Kind of like a bee/wasp sting death?

Thank god I don't see them around in America. They scared the cr@p out of me in India!

Rip to the young boy!

Very sad indeed, I will continue on respecting them as I always have. Even if I don't die, a bite from one must really not be that pleasant at all.
