My New Friend(From Expo)

Postby Primogen » Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:01 am

So I went to expo this past weekend expecting to get myself a few new snakes but nothing really caught my eye.
I have wanted a Tegu for a while now but no opertunities have arisen, so when I saw some crazy lizards running
around in a tank I thought why not.

I decided to try my hand at taming one of these little beasts(note: these are Columbian Tegusand not Argentinian B&Ws)
since I had such good luck with my docile Tiawan beautys.
I asked to take a look at the only one that was not trying to inflict brain damage on himself, I was handed him(I'm going to assume he is male
as he was bigger than the rest) and was rather impressed, there was no thrashing or open mouth and hissing he just looked me the whole time.
I had made up my mind at that point and now have a friendly(so far) new family member.

I decided to name him Mutatio(latin for change)

Awesome I got myself a black and white tegu at the fair of roughly the same size. How's yours doing? Mines still exploring his new habitat and burying himself under the substrate when he sleeps!

He is doing pretty well, kinda skittish when i'm busy in the room but calms down alot when I feed him.
Its going to be a long process to tame him but I will get there.
Did you get yours at the randburg expo because i didn't see any b&w ones?

Mine also likes to burrow but I put a hide in so he goes there to sleep now.

What are you feeding yours at the moment? Mines also a bit skittish but only when I come too close to the cage.

This is him/her just after I misted the cage coming to see what the heck is going on! He burrows underneath the substrage rather than hiding in the hide.

So far I have fed him chicken mince mixed with crushed mealworms, reptile vitamins and calcium then just roll it in to little balls
I made a whole lot and just froze it for when I need. As a treat I give him a boiled egg with the yolk still runny on Sundays he really loved one I have already given him.
I'm also going to skip feeding on saturdays.
