Keeping striped skinks

Has anyone kept or keep these little guys that we have running wild here in the east rand gardens?????

what is there behaviour like ? Hostile or dosile
what do they eat?
temperature

Despite the fact that have them in your garden..... how would they do in captivity?

First of all I am unsure of what the permit regulations are, but I think they may be required. BV may be able to advise.

Despite this, they are chilled in character once they have calmed down. Initial catching of large specimens they will attempt to savage you.... and they really give it their all for what little it is worth.

In terms of captivity I am not sure. I have heard discussions mentioning tinned dog food, obviously gut loaded crickets and other insects.

Catching and keeping graden skinks is illegal. I dont know why you would want to. With time you can tame them enough that they come running to you when they see you and will take food from your fingers. They love mealworms. waxworms and crickets.

Start slowly by flicking food to them without them seeing you. As and when they get used to the food they will approach you. Eventually they will eat from you hands.

All it takes is some patience and a decent supply of food. This is far more of a challenge and far more gratifying than catching them and sticking them into a cage.

I dont remember how long it was because it happend by accident. Every time I went to the mealworm culture outside I saw her hanging around so I threw some worms for her.

I guess it was a few weeks when I noticed that when she heard voices she would come running over. She nearly got stepped on once or twice as well because she would not always be noticed by others walking by.

She moved to another part of the garden and I stopped feeding her. I have so many now I cannot remember what she looked like. Possibly I will do it again just for fun.

im definately going to give this a go, but the lizards by us are so fat already i dunno if they would even bother. we have all our outdoor lights on at nite (attracts many insects, wich in turn attract the skinks)
