Mobile Apps for Snake ID and Info

Postby mrVynes » Tue Apr 10, 2012 5:17 pm

I just installed an app for Android (Also available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) called eSnakes of South Africa.

It may be a little pricy but worth it I think for noobs like me wanting information and for identifying snakes. It's got some cool features. Very handy out in the bush!

Here's a link for more info and some screenies: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coolideas.eproducts.esnakes

PEACE

That's just what I need Tjokkie!!!

Can't wait! Will we have to pay for it electronically or with airtime? Just curious.

How does the app mentioned in the OP work? Do you essentially download the ebook or does it require network connectivity to constantly download data when checking info? Could be a bit of a bugger if it works that way and you're in the veld with no cell signal (not to mention the data bill!).

edit* ahh wait I see it runs offline; nifty!

After you install the app the database (48mb) is downloaded to your phone to a location of your choice or default location (sd card). The app works offline, never needs a connection after initial download except for updates.

Hi guys
Mr vynes kinda answered the question there , reason its only R1 is i am making it kinda of a opensource program for the hobby and not the money , i will do a update release say every 2 months with professional inputs etc :)
I'm just finishing of the last part , which is kind of a GPS program , so it will sync also with your location and then update what should be in the area etc :)
