Anaconda, milk snake or bao constrictor?

Postby Reynard » Sun Jul 08, 2012 4:46 pm

Hi. I have a king corn, a blood red corn and an albino burmese and i want to get another snake but jm not shure what to get. My main options is an anaconda or a boa consrictor, don't really like the idea of a milk snake as i want something a little bigger. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have to agree with Fooble, Anacondas tend to be aggressive and bite allot. I own a view of them and love them allot but they are not snakes that is easily handled.

If I where U I would rather go with the RTB

Well considering you misspelled boa. I would not be sure.

Anacondas never calm down and just get massive.

What is a "king corn"?

Just get a milk snake they are the easiest to keep and you get some awesome species.

RTB are great. They are tough and tame very well.
If I'm gonna be an old, lonely man, I'm gonna need a thing, you know, a hook, like that guy on the subway who eats his own face. So I figure I'll be Crazy Man with a Snake, y'know. Crazy Snake Man. And I'll get more snakes, call them my babies, kids won't walk past my place, they will run. "Run away from Crazy Snake Man, " they'll shout!”

I third that, Fooble is right, anacondas are not very nice snakes to keep. They are ugly, bad tempered and dirty animals that require specific cage requirements. Why do you only give yourself 3 choices? Why not a ball python, or a Amazon tree boa, or a mate for your corn snake? Rather save up and get something decent, and consider what the snake will be like to keep when it is an adult.

Get a Red Tail Boa or Milk Snake then, if those are your 3 favourites. As all the other guys said, an Anaconda doesn't make for a very good "pet" snake.

If you like Colubrids more than Boids, go for a Milk Snake. Personally I'm not a fan of them, but some of the Albinos are very pretty. If you prefer Boids, then get a Boa, as you already have a Burm, so you should be able to handle larger snakes. And there are some pretty Boas out there too. But it just depends on which one you prefer.

And making a small spelling mistake like "bao" instead of Boa, doesn't reflect on your husbandry or handling skills, so I don't see why you should be judged on it.

I would go with a boa :) .

Wade, the fact that he misspelled boa gives the indication that, as he did not review his post before submitting it, he is not serious about the topic and does not see it as being important.

The fact that i am asking for advice shows that im not shure what to do. But i want advice from actual nice people who know what their talking about and have a slight sense or profesionalism that know what they are talking about, thank you Wade, and not from people who have nothing better to do than search out spelling errors to insult the original poster. If you dont have proper advice or even a good attitude should rather keep to themselves please and thank you.

Id LOVE to get a boa but i dont have that type of money right now... :(
So i swapped the snake park a albino bhs for an anaconda and they said if i dont like it we can just swap back. Thanks for all the advice :)

Aaxel don't be so quick to judge , go back through your posts and see how many mistakes you have made, remember that many members, including myself ,use their phones to post and mistakes are often made.

First off, I hate to say it but condas can be a handful. I've got a 2.5m and 1m male and I love them to bits. I've worked very hard to get Jack, the smaller of the two, to relax while being handled. Contrary to popular belief the yellow condas don't get that big, males can be fully grown at just 2.5 to 3m in length. They are the hardiest of your choices and their cages require endless maintenance. Other than handling and cleaning they look after themselves and are a bulletproof snake, they are also the cheapest of your options.

Milks are expensive but come in many different colour varieties and if looked after properly they are pretty rewarding too.
Boas are also very easy and get to a descent size, very cool snakes.

In my honest opinion I think you should get yourself a yearling Taiwanese or a even a Texas locistic ratsnake.

As mentioned don't limit yourself. Good luck:)
