Suggestion for advertisements

Postby LizardLover » Sat Jun 29, 2013 12:46 am

Allot of people create ads and submit them without adding their location to the advertisement. It helps allot knowing where the person is located. I have a suggestion for the administrators. Add an extra slot named "Your location" and make it a requirement to fill out(like the ones that are with a red asterisk) Just a suggestion.

Excellent Idea!

We have tried tis and then we get people entering "Planet Earth" or "under Mandela bridge". I am sure the people who get the best responses to their ads will know why and those that dont will soon work out why nobody bothers with them.

I feel the same. If I have to wonder where the person is from then I dont want to bother to find out. He/she just lost a possible sale.

All of this is possible, the person who developed the classifieds mod is not responding to my requests for assistance so it's down to me to teach myself coding. Hang in there, it will take time.

How come when I surf the net some sites can even tell which city I am in?Can we not use the same info to automatically populate the area field when posting an add?

They track your location by using cookies and pulling out information you post willy-nilly on the internet or from social networks.

And guys, we have to remember this stuff costs money. So give the admins time to discuss and respect their decision

LizardLover .You don't know what you are talking about.
I have never been on any social media sites and have never posted my personal info on any internet site.
Seems we have another "Google expert "

Tony, this has nothing to do with you going to social media sites or posting your personal info anywhere.
The way it works is on the IP that you get from your service provider (called IP Geolocation), they can track your country\city through that.

Well then whenever someone makes an incorrect statement you are faced with a couple of choices, a) you could try verbally destroy them, or b) you could try verbally point out the errors and correct them.
Option a) leaves them feeling like and you looking like what?
Option b) leaves them feeling like and you looking like what?

Come people, think before you post.

The determining of location using IP won't work because people will from time to time post ads from locations distant from that of the wares they are selling.
