sliding door tracks

Postby mental-tree » Sun Jul 21, 2013 12:59 pm

Sup guys,

Apologies if something like this has been posted but I couldn't find anything.

I am in the process of converting an old TV cabinet into a vivarium. I am 99% complete, the only thing that is left to do it mount the glass doors BUT i need some pvc tracks in order to do so and I cant find tracks anywhere. I have toyed with the idea of making tracks out of wood but would prefer proper pvc or even aluminium tracks. If anyone knows where I can buys tracks please let me know.

Adding your location would help.

I got mine at Builders Warehouse.

The staff didn't know what they where called,
so I gave up asking and found them
myself in the timber section.
They were a bit pricey though.

Gelmar is by far the cheapest. it is however the 7mm tracks going for around 35 bucks for 2 meter length, much cheaper than 200 at builders.

7mm is a bit too wide, the glass I have is 3mm.

I am in Gauteng, East Rand but can always travel or arrange shipping if I can only find tracks elsewhere.

Found a local pet store that sells the tracks at R99/m

For those who may be interested this is the cabinet that I have converted. Will post more pics on completion.

@mental-tree - what was the name of the local pet store that stocked the tracks?

There is a Gelmar walk-in store in edenvale near the Makro.
Meadowdale Value Cntr, Hyperamer Link Rd, Edendale - 1609
Edenvale (Gauteng).

I got a 3.6 meter track(top and bottom) for 3-4mm glass at R80 earlier this year, they have the sliding locks, vents etc... all at really decent prices.
If you have not got the tracks yet I suggest you try them first

@Tyronen, It's Exotic Pets (http://www.aquariums.co.za/) in Boksburg. The don't keep the tracks in stock so you need to place an order with them.

@Primogen, I have't bought the tracks yet, will pop past Gelmar first, 3,6m @ R80 is much better than R99/m
