ferrets legal in eastern cape?

Postby mariska » Sat Jan 31, 2015 12:15 pm

I bought a little ferret in durban and would like to fly him down to port Elizabeth. Are they legal in the eastern cape? I know the western cape is a no go.

I got him from a petshop in durban so I doubt they are illegal in kzn.

Mariska petshops often sell illegal stuff. There are petshops here in Gauteng selling terrapins and crayfish and garfish, and other illegal animals. Unless they suddenly became legal in the last change of laws, which I highly doubt, they are very illegal in all of South Africa.
What a world....

You can still go buy red eared sliders in any pet shop in KZN and they all know it is illegal. The conservation officials there just dont seem to care about national legislation and just turn a blind eye.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

This is a repost on the other post regarding the ferrets to which I replied. Very excited to say I got in contact with Cape Nature today and they are indeed LEGAL in the eastern cape and kzn. Theyre illegal in the western cape but no surprise there. You do need a permit to move them from kzn to eastern cape but it cost nothing and takes 2 days to get the permit. I have sent the forms for the permit so this time next week my little ferret will be on the airline heading my way:)

Hi Mariska
Cape Nature is in the Western Cape. Ferrets are definitely not legal in the Eastern Cape. You will definitely not get an import permit for one. Kwa Zulu Natal is rather confused at the best of times but even there ferrets are not supposed to be allowed.
I’m not sure how you got your information but it is wrong, I’m sorry to tell you that.
