Keeping House Snakes

Good Day All

I just wanted to find out what everyone thinks of keeping these as pets? I am very keen on getting some once my new setups are done... I would look at buying from a breeder and obviously will need a permit living in Gauteng.

Even though they would be captive bred do you think it is ok/ right to keep them?

Are they as easy to look after as a corn requirement wise?

Thanks!

I Think a lot of the members are Keeping Hous snakes. I keep 1.4 Boaedon capensis. OK, I´m living in Germany, but ther a lot of South African keepers.

You can keep them uder the same conditions like corn snakes.
Hope you understand my english.

Hello

I keep more housies than I care to count, they are way easier to keep than corns. Their feeding responses are just amazing!

You might battle to find some on permit in Gauteng, if you can't you can always import from the Western Cape(I breed BHS).

They are just great snakes to keep and breed. There are some really cool morphs available now.

This is a good read if you want a caresheet: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=12792

House snakes are really good pets! very easy and always fun. I would recommend finding one at a good price in Gauteng, as most people will try and rip you off.
Normals can range between R50-R100, Albinos can range between R250-R500, not to sure on other morphs. But always keep your eye open, even pet shops sell ''high-end'' morphs for quite cheap.

Gekosin, kfc had some good morphs and normals for sale at decent prices with a permit, which you would need in Gauteng.

Maybe contact him via PM to see if he still has them available.

Petshops in Gauteng would not sell BHS(because of the permit requirements), Yes I do have a couple available and even have some very cool eggs in the incubator.

House snakes are awesome snakes great at feeding when you get them going only thing I would say is don't keep opposit sex together as they will breed at a very young age which will have a negligible affect on the female
I have cape house snakes : t neg albino, t pos albino , ghost( blue) and green phase .
