Not the best picture, but I couldn't get the thing to stop other than to hold it down. This is a new one for me. Came in with Poensis from Benin. ID anyone?

I say its Mehelya poensis, a very dark one at that.

Is that not perhaps Mehelya crossi? I know they also occur in Benin and they're darker than the M. poensis that I've seen pictures of.

It is definitely not Poensis. Head shape alone is completely off, along with other features. Pictured is Poensis....

I got my guess from looking at this site http://durnfordi.blog62.fc2.com/category31-3.html they could have gotten it wrong too or mixed it up maybe.
And this one http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_q ... +0709+2318.
There really are not many resources about these snakes on the net although.

The pictures I have found are generally mislabled. I know the majority of the Files, but not the more obscure species. From what I have found, I'm leaning towards Crossi at this point.
