Brown Snake Black Head

Hi Guys,

Found is little guy in the kombuis, one of ours cats brought it in.

It is roughly 20 - 25 cm long has a very thin black strip down the back, Head is dark black and the rest of the body is brown.
the underbelly is white no distinctive markings.
I noticed that the tail was stubbed not pointy like other snakes.

I found that is was not aggressive when placing an object in front of it.

Is this snake harmless or should we worry.

We live in Pietermaritzburg and my concerns are for my child that plays outside and the animals.

Any Info would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

I assume the picture got squashed somehow, coz that looks really weird.

Looks like a Cape Centipede Eater, completely harmless and quite common, especially in termite mounds.

Not an issue, it an quite sure of the ID then.

This particular species is nothing to worry about, you can even let your child handle it without problems.

Just release it in the garden and it should move on.

Well done for not killing it.
