Dumb question

Dumb question

Postby case_sense » Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:07 am

hey there
i have a dumb question, but would like to know anyways and im sure of the answer.
I know Iggies and bearded dragons have diff husbandry requirements in regards to humidity and temps etc, but is it possible to keep them together int he same viv? the viv is gonna be really large so the size isnt the issue here.

any ideas?
thanx in advance

There is no such thing as a dumb question.. unless you ask the same one over and over again.

I guess you could do that with similar sized animals, but I would not recommend it. Rather set them up in two different cages. Remember, Iguanas are not really social animals. They like their space.

Although I know nothing about Iguanas or Lizards, the general =rule of thumb when keeping reptiles in captivity is to at least keep different species in their own enclosures.

Someone else may be able to give you reasons on why this is but I would take a guess and say no.

Cheers.

I would not recommend keeping them together at all.

Iguanas need much higher humidity than what Bearded Dragons do, so one of them will have health problems.

They come from 2 totally different places (areas/countries/continents).

Iguanas grow MUCH bigger than Beared dragons, so even though you might have a temporary solution, you still have a problem once they grow bigger.

Iguanas need higher heat than Bearded Dragons.

Those are just a few things which I have mentioned.

See these topics as well.

If the cage is so big why not just put a seperator in the middle

I saw somebody put a young iguana in a cage with some beardies who were a bit smaller than it.

The iguana walked over the beardie who turned around and crushed its head in one swift munch. The iguanas head was mushy.

Dont mess with a beardie was the message I got that day. Beardies do not like other animals climbing over them.

hi

good question. but please do not house them together!!! i keep both of these animals and u will have problems either from the start or in the near future.

beardies have got to be the hardiest lizards, but it will die within a month if u keep the humidity at the levels required for iguanas. Beardies do also tolerate more UV than iguanas and require more heat than iguanas.

when i got my first beardie (a male) a few years ago, the temptation was to big, so i had to see what would happen if i put them with the iguanas. he was an adult male, and the iguanas pretty big(they must have been 5 times his weight)

so i put him in their 'aviary' while they were sunning. it was not 10 seconds till he tried to mate with one of the female iggs... i wish u could have seen the look on their faces!! they were stunned! the male iguana just laid there with no idea as what to do about this situation. the females were absolutely terrified of him...

u guys should see the babies though... green bearded dragons...
