Natal Hinged Tortoise

Any keepers of Natal Hinged Tortoises on this forum?
We rescued a Natal Hinged Tortoise, with a broken shell and leg, that was injured by a car (actually burried in the mud) about a year ago.
It's an adult male, 150mm long and totally healed - but alone!!!
If you have the ideal habitat and company for him, or know someone who has, please let me know

Pablo, my best suggestion would be to go and release it back in the region where it was picked up if it is healthy and recovered sufficiently, it should be quite happy back in the wild.

We would love to do that, but will he survive after getting used to human contact and feeding? According to studies the mortality rate, when releasing tortoises after being in captifity for even shorter periods, are quite high. What are the other forum member's opinions?

I would suggest to either release it or find a suitable tortoise sanctury in SA... But I'll stick to releasing it!

Releasing tortoises is not very successful. Rather take this to someone who will nurture it and possibly even breed it. I know Creatures and Critters in Durban have a project going with Natal Hinged tortoises. Give them a call and they could include it in their project.

I contacted Creatures and Critters and they denied keeping or breeding Natal Hinged Tortoises. Any other suggestions? Anybody with a female?

Creatures and Critters do have a project going but unlike other places they are not allowed to take on any more tortoises than what their permit has allowed.

Sorry about the confusion.

Took him to Chameleon Village Tortoise Sanctuary.
At least he's now got three hinged friends!
Thanks for everybody's advice, opinions and suggestions
