Leopard Gecko Temps

Leopard Gecko Temps

Postby balls'n all » Fri Jan 15, 2010 7:08 pm

I've got a heat mat under my glass tanks and the temps on the hot side are 36.5 and drop to 26 degrees on the cool side.

Is this healthy/ adequate/ harmful to my Leos?

Any backed up opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, 36.5 is way to high, try always keep it under 32 on the hot side. Temperatures mid 20's are fine for the day. and a slight drop during the night.

Leopard geckos are very hardy animals i would not stress over temps especially where you stay those temps are good. with most geckos remember having a decent gradient of heat is what you need sure if you have a hot spot of 36 in a large tank which is maybe no larger then say 10 diameter thats alright but personally i dont like keeping my geckos at such a high temp 30 is about as high as i will go regardless of what the books or the care sheets will say. find what works for you and what works for your animals as everyone is going to differ.

Good points Fooble. I'm still doing some adjustments so will see how the leos react. I'm still not sure about such high temps myself so have brought them down to about 33.5 degrees C. The cool side sits at 25 - 26 degrees C which is a fine gradient for me.

I have kept leopard geckos without heating and they do just fine.

Really BV? But did you have them in a temperature controlled room?

Leopard geckos are very tough little critters and need very little care. Best beginner gecko's by far :)

Instead of posting a new topic, I thought I would ask here rather.

With winter on the way, or here I should say! The temp was low over the weekend but I went and bought a bigger heating pad, I see now its has not gone under 22 degrees during the night and early mornings. Day temps range from 24-28 degrees.

Is this temp ok on the warm side?

This is the air temp. The substrate (sand) temp is much higher, on the warm side it's 31/32 degrees?
