What light do you have in there and why?

No light or a small exo terra blue night light can be used if displayed, they dont do well in bright lights.

They are nocturnal so lights really are not a good idea.

if you leave it in how will the gecko have a normal life?
Think for the animals not your personal needs. That's really a silly statement to make.

I know you have A LOT more experience with this than me, but I use a basking light (outside the cage of course) for daylight hours and I think it benefits my Gecko at least for the heat (only a corner of light hits the cage).

And my gecko is doing AMAZING! He eats consistently, goes walk about at night, and does everything that a normal leo would do as a normal leo would do.

So I'm not trying to start a fight, just merely stating that I take the UTMOST care to make sure its not bright and in his eyes and too hot in his cage, and he does fine with the light as his heat source.

My suggestion is to use an infrared light bulb so that it does not effect the leo's eye's.

I'm going to stand with Glencoco on this one, instead of all of us fighting with him, why don't we simply suggest that he use the light only as a viewing light when he displays the lizzard. But Glencoco, I don't think that it's fair that everyone suddenly jumped at your throat, but in all fairness, they are right. They might have been a bit to harsh on you from the word go, but I'm sure you all can find a way to sort this out...

Glencoco, no worries. Just as a normative heat via pads or cable is preferred.
This is because geckos such as leopard geckos NEED to have a moist humid hide , do you provide additional heating besides your light?

A basking light is quite excessive and unnecessary for a nocturnal species such as the basis of the thread.
But if it works for you and there are no negative results continue what you're doing.

Everyone is here is always so quick to jump on the defensive chill out guys ;)

The light is a 40W so it does the job.

He has a little overhanging cave with sphagnum moss right under some light, I spray it every day or so. I've found that because the light is outside the cage, it doesn't affect the humidity so much.
