Gecko not putting on weight

Gecko not putting on weight

Postby Danie Burger » Thu Jun 26, 2014 11:30 am

Hi Guys

I have a female Leopard Gecko that does not want to put on weight.
I have a lot of others in the same rack and they are all fine.

I have noticed that she does not eat nearly as much as my other gecko's
and her tail is nice and fat, but being of the same age as some of my others she is half the size/weight.

Am I doing something wrong or do you get gecko's that are just smaller than others?

Thanking You
Danie

Hi Danie.

How old is the leo, how much does she weigh and how long have you had her?

If you can answer the above questions it will make it a lot easier for us to give you advice.

You say she eating less than the other geckos so it is to be expected that she is growing slower.

Hi Frank

I have had her and the others since February so they should all be around 6 to 7 months old as they were born in December and January.

I have not really weighed my gecko's yet, I will see if I can do so tonight when I get home.

Thank you in the meantime for your assistance I appreciate it.

Hi Danie

What do you feed your geckos?

I have noticed that geckos become bored of the same food. Try some crickets or roaches or even a pinky if she is over 25g and see if she eats.

Goodluck...

A friend of mine bought a couple of leos from another friend here in PE. They are about the same age as yours and his male has also grown larger than the female has. The important thing is that the leo is healthy, active and willing to eat, even if it is less that the others.

Hi

They mainly eat mealworms with a couple of roaches every now and then.
Guys the little one eats and she goes to the toilet once a day so there is nothing wrong there, her tail is relatively fat and she is very active and lively.
I am just worried because she is half the size of her friends born the same time as she.

So Jamster if I understand you correctly I do not really have to worry, she will eventually grow into her own, I was just worried that it could be some kind of illness or something.
Thanx guys for your advice and replies and if there is something I must check let me know, I would hate for my babies to get sick or worse, because I did something or did not do something that I should have.

Just remember that just like you get smaller humans and larger humans you get the same with animals. She might just be one of those.
