Positioning of the UVB in my BD cage?

Positioning of the UVB in my BD cage?

Postby Leos r gr8 » Sun Feb 24, 2008 6:48 pm

Hi Everybody
I have setup a cage for my Beardie but I'm unsure about the layout of the UV lighting. I bought a Reptisun 10.0 *thanks Bjorn ;) * and a fitting, its 60 cm long and I have the fitting positioned at the back of my cage against the wall (at the top) facing down...is this ok or should I move it to the middle? Its a bit of a hassle because the fitting is already screwed in   but if it's to the benefit of the animal I will take it apart and move it. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Liam

Glad to help. The 10.0 has an effective distance of 51cm from the tubs surface. It should be fine at the back but you would most likely get more exposure if it's in the middle. If you have a branch that he can climb and bask near the tub then I would leave it.

The UV tube should cover only half or a quarter of the tank, obviously the basking spot should be placed next to the UV tube so that when he basks in the spot lamp's heat he gets the benficial UV rays.

Thanks Trayton, that's pretty much exactly how it is set out. Does anyone know how to prepare butternut for beardies? Should I boil it, chop it or grate it? My beardie is going to be here tonight!

Yes, just wash them with water beforehand. :)
