Agree with Fooble, shading and everything is wrong.
Definitely a fake picture.

Wow! Even if the photo makes it look bigger than it really is, this is still a huge croc and such a shame this giant was killed for eating cows!

Why would you say that? Some Nile Crocs have reached close to 6m if I'm not mistaken with weights recorded at over 1000kg? Although a rare occurrence, this might very well be possible wont you say? The article places the Croc at 15ft which is roughly 4,5m... And i won't thinks that is way oversized for a Croc in a remote area like Norther Zim.

On a trip to the Kruger 2008, We saw a HUGE Nile Crocodile at Lake Panic near Skukuza, I wont put it on scale with the one in the pic, but damn, after seeing such a Crocodile in front of your eyes, it might very well be true without any exaggeration.

Just my thought though :D

Agreed with mailjvdb, the croc pictured here is easily 4.5-5m long, which is by no means extreme for an adult male Nile crocodile. If man continued to kill the giants of this earth, one day all we might have left is pictures like this to scrutinize.

The size is definitely reachable...

Don't know so much about the authenticity of the photo, looks a bit fishy to me.

The people seem to be sitting a bit too far away for this to match up 100 %

Who knows, might just be a #$% camera...

I agree with insaniac, I also agree with the all of you that say that they can grow up to that size, but think this picture is fake.
The depth of field is wrong, especially at the tail side.

Look at that back leg.

It's easily wider then those people. Unless they are midgets or dwarfs?
Agree it's a large animal though.

It might also be due to the fact that it is a photo scanned or was taken from a book. Looks more like it's photographed than scannned.

Seeing how hard it is to believe these pics, we all ready have a big problem on our hands... My Grandparents had a farm in what was called Rhodesia, and i have heard many stories of these giants from many members of the family, and it seems crocs of this size was a normal occurrence back in the day. But these days unfortunately one mostly hears stories, and this would be a lovely find if the pics turn out to be true.

Farming (fertilizers and pesticides ending up in rivers) and water pollution also has a very negative impact on them. Also the crisis in Kruger with their crocs, doesn't paint a very bright future picture for these magnificent beasts in the wild :(

Kruger Park faces a major problem as most of their major waterways originate from outside the park, where it is polluted with toxins, chemichals, exotic plant species, and who knows what else! This would not only be detrimental to crocs and fish, but to most animals who call Kruger home. This is something government should act on fast!

I wonder what "circumstances" did not allow for it to be measured? You can walk it off as a large mans step is about a metre and "heel to toe" can be measured later and this extrapolated to the entire length. Photo does look suspect to me though. Possibly the locals were standing a good distance behind the croc which is reasonable.

Either way I do not want to be the person who tries to catch and remove an animal of this size.

Try asking the works in your garden to walk of a snake... usualy they wont come close haha.
maybe those locals were just a bit afraid of standing close to the crock? :)

you guys ever wached steve irwin? croc diaries?
he was a legend... a crock superhero!
on more than one occasion they caught crocs of 16 and 17 feet!!!
(not babbeling a story, go check episodes of steve irwin, crock diaries)

I think we just don't realize what size these beast can really be...

just speaking my mind, but still think the pick is fake though... X-D
