Those are so cute. I like alligators because they seem less aggressive and area easier to train than our local crocs.

I've been wondering, what are the legalities surrounding exotic crocs and alligators? Like are they legal and do you need permits or do they fall under that dangerous animal act thing were you have to follow a certain amount of parameters. Always wanted a croc that doesn't get very big, are there any that can be kept in tanks (large ones)? Those cuban crocodiles also look cool, but very fast :P

The majority of your Caimans can be kept in tanks for a while, but it all depends on the size of the tank and how fast they outgrow it. Eventually they will all need something too large to be kept indoors. The prices can be prohibitive in most cases, which is unfortunate as they do make awesome species to keep as captives. I'm definitely considering adding some more species of crocodilian to my collection. Once the bug has bitten... I guess they aren't cheap in SA due to the limited availability, which drives the price up, although it doesn't appear that the demand is high for them on the other hand either. I'm not sure on the legalities, it would obviously vary from province to province, I'd expect in the Cape you wouldn't get a permit for them, whereas in Natal you wouldn't need a permit for them, and obviously a range in between.
