Help!

Help!

Postby glencoco » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:30 pm

A while ago, I bought a silver corn, assuming he was actually a corn snake (as the label said(in the pet store)).

I was happy until......I realized that as he aged, he started looking more like a rat snake. the coloring, head-markings etc. I was almost certain that he was a silver corn, then today I went to Google Image to search for a Rat snake picture, they looked identical to my Sylar, (my alleged silver corn snake) and now I'm just furious that I didn't look at some pictures of silver corn snakes vs. rat snakes. I was sure that I'll have to buy another corn snake :smt013 ( I bought a oktee after him and then a albino).

But just now, I looked at some photo's of silver corns, and to my amazement the are almost the same! :smt017

I'm just so confused, will I get mutts if I breed? or pure blood's.

I'll post pics soon (I must figure out this darn system for posting pic's). :smt017

Please help me, I won't allow myself to keep to different sub-species of snake together, I'd rather spend money on another cage (giving me a total of 4 cages), then keep then together. :smt022

Thanks,
Glencoco

Ok, I say, post some pictures.

You need to first resize your pics. To do this you can open a photobucket account or use paint, and I am sure other can help with other methods. If you are using paint open the picture and hold CTRL+W then enter a percentage of how much you want to resize the picture. I use 30%. In photobucket upload the picture, get to the edit menu and resize from there.

Then you need to upload the picture into the gallery, which can be found at the top right of your screen, details follow here viewtopic.php?f=29&t=37&hilit=how+to+post+pictures

This will also provide you with all you need to post photos

The photos are a bit blurry due to the fact that my phone camera is better...

That is a corn snake from what I can see. If it helps the way I look at the difference is the head mainly. If you can call it 'cheek bones' (jaw hinges or back jaw bones) on the side are wider with a rat snake and the head size more 'stocky' if that helps. Where as a corn's 'cheek bones' (jaw hinges or back jaw bones) are a bit more slender and the head 'dainty'.

Not sure if that makes sense, but I hope it helps.

He also freaked me out last weekend, for four days i was away at an adventure camp. When i came back, he was HUGE!
Not just big but gargantuan. Growth spurt maybe? my other corns are starting this as well. I'm also thrilled because i moved him and his mate up to fuzzies, best feeling I've felt EVER!

I would label that as a Corn Snake.
The pics are very blurry and the colour ill defined, from what I can see I would not label that as Silver or Anery.
Perhaps better quality pics could prove me wrong.

It also does not look like a silver corn snake to me.

The easiest to take pics with a cell is to try taking a pic in natural sunlight. Sometimes that helps. Not always though.
