Postby kyle mcdonald » Wed Jul 21, 2010 5:51 pm

hello to all

i arrived at home to go and see my hatchling rock monitor which was given to me by a friend.

i arrived to a very lifeless body. :smt009

my little guy had died and he had sticky white stuff in and around his mouth , he had a massive water bowl and sprayed EVERY day!! :smt010

does anyone have an idea as to why he may of died ?

the temps on hot side were between 26 and 31 and the cold side 18 and 21.

he was perfect until i got home and his cage is locked so no one could get in. :smt022

any help would be greatly appreciated.

What have you been feeding him and how often?
Wild caught monitor?

Is the enclosure indoors?

Rock monitors shouldn't be sprayed and dont need a large waterbowl. They prefer it dry.
Perhaps he had an RI which you didn't pick up and it got so bad that he died?

I think you may have kept this baby monitor to wet and too cold they need a basking spot of up to 50 degrees, but there could be many other factors which contributed to this unfortunate death. What food were you feeding and how frequently?

Sorry to hear about your loss man. Its never nice to lose one of your animals. I agree with what Herphabitat said, your monitor was kept too cold and moist.
