Small Rock Monitor catching a snake

The small rock monitor on our stoep, caught a snake yesterday. Hubby heard something fall and when he looked he saw this:

With all the activity around him, he let go of the snake and sat there watching us.

The snake fell off the braai and tried to get away, it was badly damaged just behind his head. We backed off and soon the rock monitor was on the ground looking for the snake. We left them in peace and I'm sure that he managed to recapture the snake.

Hubby is really impressed with the rock monitor. He's quite happy that it will get big enough to finish off some of the larger snakes that we've had here.

What a great capture thanks for sharing!

Looks like it WAS a brown house snake too

Yeah that was a brown house snake he had there. Pity because it was coming to help with the mouse problem. I guess that is the cycle of life in the bush.
